Walnut Hills swimming delivered an outstanding performance at this weekend’s ECC Conference Meet, highlighted by significant time drops, multiple podium finishes, and a new conference record. Both the girls and boys teams powered their way to third-place overall finishes, showcasing the depth, talent, and competitiveness of the Eagles program.
The girls team set the tone early with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay, as Molly McCracken, Quinn Schureck, Josefina Melendez, and Elise Hague combined for a strong opening swim. Individually, McCracken captured first place in the 100 backstroke, added a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle, and anchored the third-place 400 freestyle relay alongside Schureck, Melendez, and Hague. Schureck also made history, winning the 100 breaststroke and setting a new ECC record, while earning second place in the 100 butterfly.
Diving was another bright spot for the Eagles. In Girls 1-Meter Diving, Sarah Cooper earned a third-place finish with a score of 195.05, and Grace Kim delivered a strong showing in fourth place with 193.50 points. Sarah and Grace’s performances contributed valuable points toward the Eagles’ overall total and demonstrated the strength of Walnut Hills diving against tough competition.
The boys team matched the momentum with consistent excellence across relays and individual events. The 200 medley relay team of PJ Varatta, Ernie Manders, Isaiah Greenlee, and Oliver Connick earned third place, while the 200 freestyle relay surged to a second-place finish behind Greenlee, Connick, Manders, and Varatta. Greenlee led the individual charge with a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle and a third-place showing in the 100 butterfly, while Connick added a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle. Varatta rounded out the podium performances with a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle.
With record-setting swims, dynamic diving contributions, and championship-level performances across the board, the Eagles proved they belong among the conference’s elite and set the perfect stage for an OHSAA tournament run. Congratulations to all of our swimmers, divers, and coaches on an exceptional ECC meet—your hard work continues to make Walnut Hills proud!
