Ian Rice M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained
orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and arthroscopy, treating
athletes and active individuals of all ages. Dr. Rice performs advanced
arthroscopic procedures for sports-related injuries of the hip, knee, shoulder,
and elbow.
Dr. Rice was born and raised in Cincinnati and attended St.
Xavier High School, Miami University and the University of Cincinnati College
of Medicine. He was chief orthopedic surgery resident at the University of Pittsburgh
Medical Center Hamot Hospital, and completed his orthopedic sports medicine
fellowship at Beacon Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
Beyond his educational background, Dr. Rice is a published
researcher and active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons
(AAOS), American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM), Arthroscopy
Association of North America (AANA), International Cartilage Repair Society
(ICRS), and the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA) among others.
He serves as faculty member and Assistant Program Director for the Beacon
Orthopedic Surgery Sports Medicine Fellowship.
Dr. Rice has extensive team physician experience, having served
as an assistant team orthopedic surgeon for professional, college and high
school teams (including the Cincinnati Reds, Wilmington College and Archbishop
Moeller High School during his time with Beacon). He is currently the medical
director and team physician for Roger Bacon High School and Walnut Hills High
School, and serves on Medical Staff for the Cincinnati Reds.
Dr. Rice’s sports medicine philosophy means he is committed to
getting athletes healthy so they can return to the field or court as soon as
possible. He believes exercise is medicine, and healthy joints are the
foundation for achieving peak fitness potential. His patients rely on him
to help them preserve and restore the joints they were born with rather than
replace them, and utilize all the tools that modern medicine and technology can
offer to accomplish that goal.
Growing
up, Dr. Chaney looked at her doctors as her heroes- the people who helped her
stay healthy so she could work toward goals in education and sports. She chose
to specialize in family medicine with an additional fellowship in sports
medicine because of the broad range of people she can help throughout their
lives.
Dr.
Chaney sees patients of all ages, from newborn through geriatrics, providing
comprehensive care for acute and chronic conditions. She provides non-operative
orthopedic care for athletes of all ages and abilities. She is trained in using
ultrasound imaging for orthopedic injections and diagnostic purposes. Impressed
with the sense of relief she felt with her own doctors, she wants to build a
relationship of trust with her patients that allows them to look to her for
advice and comfort.
Dr.
Chaney encourages everyone to take one day at a time and to set small goals and
know that nothing is impossible.
A
Cincinnati native, Dr. Chaney volunteers at St Gertrude church and has worked
with People Working Cooperatively. She has also volunteered her medical care to
many local sporting events including Walnut Hills and Seton High School. She
also works with TriHealth's Events Medicine Team, which is affiliated with the
Bengals, Reds, and other local teams and sporting events. She enjoys scuba
diving, working out, baking, watching sports, and spending time with family and
friends.
