Come join the Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club (CJRC) to learn an Olympic sport and be added to a long line of Walnut Alums that made rowing their sport! This includes the current Women's National Team Eight Coxswain and Olympic Athletes, Nina Castagna who found out about rowing in a Walnut PE class. No experience is needed to join. CJRC accepts students grade 6-12 providing multiple levels of advancement. This is a no-cut, no-bench sport providing an opportunity to grow as a person and athlete!
Join us for our Fall Open House on Sept. 2 at 7pm at the Newport Boathouse (450 W 5th St., Newport, KY 41071) to meet the coaches, see the facility, and to meet other current/prospective rowers. All interested are welcome to visit. This is not a commitment to joining. Even if you cannot join in the fall, please consider joining us to learn more information for the winter and spring seasons.
Teams Available:
Middle School Team

Where: Newport Boathouse in Newport, KY (5 minutes from downtown Cincinnati)
When: Fall season - Sept. 14 to Oct. 24 | Practice - 4 to 5:30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays

High School Competitive Team (Open Enrollment until early April)

When: Fall season - Sept. 3 to end of fall racing | Practice - 3:45 to 6:15pm Monday-Friday and 8-10:30am on Saturday (practices are recommended but not mandatory for novice year)
Why: Rowing is a lifetime sport that builds the foundations for multiple life skills including time management, stress management, teamwork, and more. Unlike many other sports, you are not late with starting rowing. Most individuals in the US start in high school or later. Joining CJRC as a novice will allow you to begin an Olympic sport with no experience and train to compete as a top 10 team in the country. While rowing with us (as a top 10 team), you will be exposed to colleges and advice on recruitment.
