The Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) held its International Combine at the OrthoCarolina Sportsplex near Charlotte, North Carolina. The multi-day showcase, featuring players from around the world, concluded on January 8, 2026. The combine provided an opportunity for players to train, play, and be seen by professional and collegiate scouts, reinforcing WPSL’s role in developing women’s soccer talent.
Event Highlights:
Day One kicked off the combine with training and competitive play as international and domestic prospects began their showcase.
Day Two featured a competitive scrimmage with four goals scored and numerous scoring chances, allowing players to impress scouts and coaches.
Day Three (Final Day) wrapped the event, with WPSL alumnae standing out and participants completing the showcase in front of attending evaluators.
Sophia Cucchetti ('22) stood out over the three-day event with her midfield play, helping control the pace and direction of play for the Blue team during matches. Scouts praised her calmness on the ball and ability to find teammates, even with players she hadn’t played with before.
In the final match of the combine, she forced a close-range save from a veteran goalkeeper, showing her ability to create dangerous attacking opportunities. As a result of her performance, she — along with teammate Natalie Mangayi — earned an opportunity to pursue professional playing options in Spain, identified by a scout from Malaga FC.
Cucchetti, who graduated from Walnut Hills in 2022, is a midfielder who played the past two seasons in the WPSL with FC Dayton. She played collegiately at Cleveland State University, where she was a regular starter, contributing goals and assists from midfield.
